DISTRICT 18 TOURNAMENTS

As of July 3, the District 18 all-star tournaments are almost over, and all our PRLL baseball and softball all-star teams represented PRLL in stellar fashion.  None of the teams left their tournament without at least one win.  The baseball 12's made the final round before losing to Nyack/VCC.  The baseball10's, on July 3, edged New City, 6-5, in the upper bracket final, to reach the championship round, and on July 5, the team convincingly defeated West Nyack, 13-3, to win the District 18 Tournament.

The 10 year-olds' baseball team came flying out of the gate to win their first three games, 13-3 over Haverstraw (6/22), 10-0 over Suffern (6/23) and 6-0 over South Orangetown (6/28).  In the upper bracket final game on 7/2, the team defeated New City, 6-5, at the Stony Point complex, and reached the final round.  On July 5, at Hemlock Field in Congers, they defeated the West Nyack team (which came in with a 5-1 record), 13-3.  The PRLL baseball 10's are the 2025 District 18 Champions.  (See below** for the team's next tournament).

Tournament Origins and Background:

In September, 2009, Carolyn Marie Sullivan, a happy eight year-old first baseman on the Rookie Girls Blaze team, passed away after a five-month battle with a glioblastoma multiforme brain tumor.  After having surgery in May, Carolyn continued to attend her team’s games and pursue other aspects of her life, showing enormous courage and vitality.  A tournament that features enthusiastic young softball teams playing a game that Carolyn enjoyed is a fitting tribute to her memory. Carolyn was also connected to softball through her grandfather John (who passed in 2011), a softball coach at Clarkstown North and the fifth winningest softball coach in Rockland history. PRLL has established this memorial tournament as an annual tradition.
