CONGRATS, NEIGHBOR!!

In case you missed it, our neighbor South Orangetown Little League has accomplished a rare feat.  SOLL's Majors (11-12) Softball team, after winning the District 18, Regional and New York State championships, has prevailed (5-0 record) in the Little League Eastern Regionals and has gained a berth in the Little League Softball World Series beginning on August 11 in Greenville, North Carolina.  SOLL, designated as "New York" in the LLSBWS, will take on Arizona on August 11, Texas on August 13, Missouri on August 14 and Virginia on August 15. An elimination round will be held on August 16 (to be televised on ESPN-2/ESPN News), semi-finals on August 17 (ESPN-2) and a consolation game and LL Championship (ESPN) on August 18. Go, SOLL! Best of luck, neighbor!

UPDATE 8/11/21: SOLL blanked Arizona, 4-0 today in their first LL Softball World Series game.  Haley Arvidson led New York to a 4-0 win against Arizona with 6 strikeouts, with help from Ava Handleman who hit an RBI and a triple. Next game is against Texas on Friday.

UPDATE 8/14/21: The SOLL team continues to play great softball, but are now up against the best teams in the country, and yesterday and today, they dropped tight 2-0 decisions to Texas and Missouri, respectively, for a 1-2 record thus far in pool play.  They have one more game, tomorrow (Sunday) at 7 p.m. against undefeated Virginia, before an elimination round on Monday.

UPDATE 8/15/21:  Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 protocols, SOLL was forced to forfeit their game against Virginia, ending their participation in the tournament.  Despite the disappointment, SOLL can be proud of their efforts, and their  Little League Softball World Series appearance has set a new bar for Rockland County softball.
